prise reveal yesterday evening which was completely unexpected was NECA doing ultimate figures from the 1980 Flash Gordon. As NECA has said that they couldn’t get the license in the past. Images for these just dropped last night and they are on show at SDCC now and are up for pre-order already in the States.
I know they did some homage figures with comic book figures in the Flash film costumes which was an exclusive. I was absolutely over the moon when I first saw the Vultan figure which has a spot-on likeness to Brian Blessed. I shortly found images of Flash and Ming The Merciless and they look just as incredible! The detailing is exquisite and very film accurate. They have done a marvelous job with these.
The likeness to the late Max Von Sydow is just as impressive and the Sam Jones likeness is spot-on too. I’ve noticed that on the descriptions for Flash and Ming, they have (Final Battle) & (Red Military Outfit) after their names which makes me think we’ll see other versions of Flash & Ming in the Ultimate Flash Gordon 1980 line and that we’ll see other characters down the line. I’d personally really love to see a figure of Timothy Dalton’s Prince Barin in the line.
I’m definitely getting these and I cannot wait for the pre-orders to pop up in the UK. Here’s the product information from NECA:
